  • What's your experience of Salvation?

I grew up in a Christian home.  My father was a deacon, who later became a pastor and my mom a deaconess of the local church.  As I reached the age of nine I saw my older brother and sister getting baptized.  I became curious as to why they did.  I found out they accepted the Lord Jesus as the saviour and thus has taken this step to be baptized.  In doing so I found myself having the desire to be saved and baptize.   Whenever there was an altar call for salvation I went up because I wanted to be saved and baptized.  My parents did not think I should be baptized at that age (10) though. I however kept going to the altar.  I think my pastor saw this and once said if you came up to the altar before you have received salvation and you don’t have to come again, but I still went because I wanted to be sure I was saved.

As this continued, I realize that there was a burden to do something for God, to pray more and to read the word of God, which suddenly started to “come alive” to me. I started working for God by fixing chairs in my school’s Bible Club.  I found tremendous joy in doing this.  After which I started working in Royal Rangers Department and Youth Ministry.  I think my parents saw my new found desire to do the work for God and when I was about the age of eleven (11), they allowed me to be baptize.

More and more I begin to have a desire to be a witness (tell others about the Gospel) and to help people.  I must mention at this point however that I was a very shy person.  I remember a specific incident, when was ten (10) years old.  My friends wanted to “set me up” with a girl who they thought was suited for me.  I however did not have the boldness to go and talk to her.  My friends however encourage me and said they will go with me.  As we were heading to talk to her I told them, “don’t bother”.  My friends again encouraged me to go and talk to her but I refused.  They finally said, “Well wait here and we will bring her to you.”  I agreed.  However when they left me to go bring the girl, I ran away.  It was from this shy person, to a Bible Club Executive, Royal Rangers leader, and Youth Ministry Executive, I was changed to by the Holy Spirit, shortly after I got baptize.

I became a Bible Club Executive first.  As I started to fix the benches for Bible Club, not knowingly to me I was being watched by the leaders of the Bible Club.  Elections for the Bible Club committee had past before I started fixing benches and working in Bible Club.  However, sad to say the Bible Club president had to step down because of health related issues, which created and opening in the Bible Club committee.  Apparently I was a tremendous encouragement to the vice-president(who then became the president of the Bible Club), from the conversation I had with him.  He saw something in me and recommended me to the committee to fill the spot that was left and they unanimously voted for me to join them. This same boy whoran away from talking to a girl, began counseling youths, praying for the sick, leading people to salvation, doing visitation, and preaching.  There was such a great change in my lift that I preached I first Sunday morning, local church message at the age of fourteen (14). To this day I still preaching and working for God.  This is my experience of salvation.
